Mats Hansson
Jag försöker förstå de molekylära processer som styr hur en växt ska se ut, t.ex. hur hög växten ska bli, hur många blad och frön den ska få. Jag är dessutom intresserad av mekanismerna som reglerar när en växt börjar blomma och hur den tillverkar klorofyll och det yttre lager av vax som den täcks av. Väldigt ofta arbetar jag med mutanter av sädesslaget korn (Hordeum vulgare L.), vilka isolerades för mer än 50 år sedan, och analyserar dessa med moderna molekylära och biokemiska tekniker. Min forskning besvarar grundläggande vetenskapliga frågor men är också av tillämpat intresse för växtförädling.
Jag samarbetar med forskare i mer än 20 länder och med växtförädlare på Nordic Seed. Min forskning stödjs för närvarande av VR (Vetenskapsrådet), FORMAS (Forskningsrådet för miljö, areella näringar och samhällsbyggande), Kungliga Fysiografiska Sällskapet i Lund, Erik Philip-Sörensens Stiftelse, BECC (Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in a Changing Climate), och Lunds universitet.
